JODO SHIN BUDDHISM Jodo Shin Buddhism is a major branch of Buddhist teachings. Its practice is to acknowledge the compassionate heart of Amida Buddha through “hearing” the Dharma (Buddhist teachings). In awakening to true compassion directed to all beings equally, the Jodo Shin Buddhists express the joy of living in the teachings with others through the saying of “Namu-amida-butsu”. SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP (GOJIKAI) Participation in temple activities is open to everyone. A person is officially recognized as a member of the Moiliili Hongwanji Mission by filling out a pledge card and paying the dues. Only dues paying sustaining members are eligible to serve on the Kyodan (temple) Board of Directors, and are able to vote at the annual membership meeting. BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors is the policy and decision-making body of Moiliili Hongwanji Mission. The board meets once a month to go over temple business. Election of officers and board members is held at the annual membership meeting in February.
