Aloha Friends and Neighbors of Moiliili Hongwanji Preschool,

As part of the Moiliili Hongwanji Preschool (“MHP”) COVID-19 recovery plan, we are creating the COVID-19 Recovery Fund to manage the projected revenue shortfall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

MHP was temporarily closed on March 25th due to the State of Hawaii lockdown orders and recently reopened on June 29th. Unfortunately, that was almost 3 months during which MHP could not collect any tuition and revenue was lost. During this time, MHP continued to incur and pay basic expenses to keep it from being closed permanently.

When MHP reopened, we experienced a substantial reduction in enrollment and incurred additional expenses to maintain the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff. This included the purchase of cleaning supplies and staffing for routine deep cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting. Although we are hoping to regain our enrollment in the next few months, we need your help in raising $10,000 eo ensure we make it through this challenging time.

We are asking the community to consider donating generously to this special COVID19 Recovery Fund. We will also be reaching out to our parents and temple members for their support as well.

In 2020, if you take a standard deduction, you can claim a brand new “above-the-line” deduction of up to $300 for cash donations to charity. If you itemize on Schedule A of your tax return, you can deduct your entire charitable deduction (if less than 100% of your adjusted gross income, the 60% limit has been lifted for 2020).
