Join us this Sunday for Remembrance & Hanamatsuri Buddha Day Service
Please join us this Sunday, April 12 at 9:00 a.m. (hybrid service*) for our Remembrance & Hanamatsuri Buddha Day Service.
On Buddha Day, also known as Hanamatsuri (Flower Festival), Buddhists commemorate the birth of Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini Garden. Siddhartha became the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, and was the manifestation of Amida, the Buddha of Infinite Wisdom and Compassion.
Our speaker will be Rev. David Fujimoto, Resident Minister, Mōʻiliʻili Hongwanji.
A hanamido, a miniature floral altar with a figure of the baby Buddha, will be set up in the temple. Everyone is welcome to pour sweet tea over the Baby Buddha before or after the service, to symbolize the sweet rain that fell at his birth. It represents a moment of gratitude, celebration, and spiritual cleansing.
The offertory collected at this service will be going to Kahului Hongwanji Preschool and others who suffered flooding & severe water damage from the Kona Low & other storms. Your generosity is appreciated.
Refreshments and fellowship to follow in the Social Hall (ground floor).
We look forward to seeing you!
*Moiliili Hongwanji continues to hold hybrid services. This means you can join us either in-person or through Zoom, although in-person attendance is highly encouraged.
